A flu pandemic occurs with the emergence of a new, virulent strain of flu that infects people. Because there is little natural immunity and no vaccine, it can spread easily from person to person.

In case of a flu pandemic

  • Avoid crowds, when possible stay 3 to 6 feet away from others.
  • Have a plan for taking care of yourself and your family.
  • The same prevention tips used for seasonal flu will apply to a flu pandemic.
  • There is no vaccine, however, an unprecedented amount of resources are being utilized to fund vaccine research and development.
  • Research is also being conducted into effective medications that can reduce the severity of an influenza attack.
