Prevention - Rally Around Resistance
Take these measures to prevent the spread of illness:
- Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 30 seconds.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth – they are entry points for germs.
- Cover your mouth and nose and cough or sneeze into your sleeve, or use a tissue and wash your hands afterwards.
- Put used tissues in a waste basket.
Stay Healthy
- Eat a balanced diet. Be sure to eat a variety of foods, including plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grain products.
- Drink plenty of water and go easy on salt, sugar, alcohol and saturated fat.
- Exercise on a regular basis and get plenty of rest.
Plan a Sick Out
If you experience flu symptoms like body aches, fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose:
- Stay home to prevent spreading illness.
- Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids.
- See your doctor if you are concerned about your illness, especially if you are at high risk for complications from the flu.
- Know that antibiotics are not effective against the flu.
