Prevention - Rally Around Resistance

Take these measures to prevent the spread of illness:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 30 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth – they are entry points for germs.
  • Cover your mouth and nose and cough or sneeze into your sleeve, or use a tissue and wash your hands afterwards.
  • Put used tissues in a waste basket.

Stay Healthy

  • Eat a balanced diet. Be sure to eat a variety of foods, including plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grain products.
  • Drink plenty of water and go easy on salt, sugar, alcohol and saturated fat.
  • Exercise on a regular basis and get plenty of rest.

Plan a Sick Out

If you experience flu symptoms like body aches, fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose:

  • Stay home to prevent spreading illness.
  • Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids.
  • See your doctor if you are concerned about your illness, especially if you are at high risk for complications from the flu.
  • Know that antibiotics are not effective against the flu.
